Back to basics

Remember growing up back in the day? What do you remember? There were no computers, internet or i-anything. We were told to “go outside and play”! Those were fond memories of childhood and should still be integrated into a child’s routine today. The fundamentals of finding something to do, avoiding the “i’m bored” situation, forces one to discover, explore, and use one’s imagination. What happened to “Once upon a time”.

Canada has 4 great seasons and finding engaging activities to build on the discover and explore idea is endless. Winter – the basic snowball fight, building a snow man/fortress. Spring – walks through a park, collecting blossoms, jumping through puddles on a warm rainy day. Summer – playing in the backyard with a hose, drinking from the hose, making mud pies. Fall – raking leaves and falling into the piles, visiting a pumpkin patch and decorating your house for Halloween. Simply just playing with the family and building memories is something almost forgotten. It’s much easier to throw an i-pad in a child’s hands and they’re entertained for hours. But consider; what are you teaching them? How are their brains growing? What type of adult are you grooming?
